Visual Effects Short Videos (Research)

I like the transitions & flow of the entire video, especially the change from solid land to under the sea. The way it still looks natural got my interest, including the transformation of "Alexa" the AI from a product to a diver.

I find the use of different angles & perspective a very smart way to bring this video its' success, this video in particular uses this to bring the illusion of the pumpkin to being a mug & an actual big pumpkin. I find it very suiting & hilarious to fit the celebration of Halloween.

This is one of my fav videos as it still amazes me how he is able to be stuck onto the wall like an actual spider, eventhough in real life it is impossible. Especially when in the video, you can see how the camera angles in such a way to show viewers the room is in a normal, upright position. This makes the video even more amazing & confuses people even more.

1. Idea Proposal

This is the proposal that was showed to my lecturer, along with a drawn out storyline & how the camera angle would roughly look like.

Fig 1.3 Updated Storyboard, (14/11/2022)

Fig 1.1 to 1.3 are the updated storyboard sketches, according to the feedback I've received from my lecturer. I added on some extra details so that it can act as a guide when I start the filming process.

Fig 1.4 Progress, (21/11/2022)

I first imported all the videos that I took into Adobe Premiere Pro, this includes cutting off all the unwanted bits & ensuring the arrangement is correct.

This is followed by adding background music & sound effects, this part took quite a bit of time as I needed to ensure the timings were all aligned.

Lastly, I had to color correct every single video clips to ensure there's consistency & create a vibe suitable for my video concept.

FEEDBACK

Week 11
Specific Feedback
The storyline overall is interesting, but for the final scene I was suggested to add in a magical glow aura of some sort coming from the door to create a loop.

REFLECTIONS

Experience
Week 10 : Thinking of a storyline to implement 3 different visual effects wasn't as easy, but thankfully the task isn't too difficult either.
Week 12 : Despite having a past experience with filming for Project 2, this would be assumingly more difficult since the technicality would be more.
Week 13 : Editing for this project would not be as easy, as I have never done any visual effect editing before.

Observations
Week 10 : After thinking of a storyline, it was easier to draw out the storyboard based off the main points that was written down.
Week 12 : It took a bit more time than I expected, however the investment of a camera stand was proven to be very useful throughout the filming process.
Week 13 : The simple cutting and color adjustments were proven to be easy & done relatively quickly, although it did take quite a bit of time to figure out how to do the visual effect parts.

Findings
Week 10 : Looking at other visual effects videos was able to provide inspiration, along with the environment I'm in to be able to film it.
Week 12 : Having the drawn storyboard as a guideline was very helpful for me to refer back to when I need to adjust my camera.
Week 13 : Watching videos on YouTube like tutorials, to help guide me through the editing process of the visual effect parts.
