INSTRUCTIONS

1. Audio - Sound for Visual

We are given a movie clip from the film animation "Soul", which we need to dub over the specific slip & add in any required sound effects/music.

1. Progression

I used my phone to record the audios required to add onto the clip, which were all uploaded onto a google drive folder in order to get them in Premiere Pro. Firstly, I cropped out the unwanted parts in each audio clips & aligned them with the video clip.

I proceed to add in the sound effects & edit the pitch of each audio clips to the appropriate themes. I used different layers to have a better differentiation of which audio belonging to who, which made editing a bit easier.

I added & downloaded ambience noises to enhance the video clip even more, this includes adjusting all the clips to ensure they blend well altogether.

2. Audio - Sound Shaping

In this exercise, we are given a list of scenarios & an audio clip. Using the audio clip, we need to create the soundscape for all of those given scenarios.

1. Progression

Using Adobe Audition, I selected the filter effect option to edit the audio clip so that it sounds like the list given to us. The list includes, voice of phone call, voice coming from inside a closet, voice of toilet/bathroom & underground cave. The first 2 had to contain some form of muffled filter to create the sound effect.

Using different filters & echo effect, I made the appropriate adjustments so that the audio will suit the last 2 categories on the list. I edited them all on the same multitrack, then exporting them 1 by 1.

3. Audio - Creating Sound Effects

For this exercise, we are required to do 3 things.
1. Magnification EXPLOSION sound
2. Variation of PUNCH SOUNDS (Triple punches)
3. MONSTER or ALIEN voice (select one part from the sample voice that was provided to us)

1. Progression

Fig 3.1 Progression, (20/11/2022)

Using Adobe Audition, I used Chorus, Echo & Amplify to enhance the sound of the original explosion clip to magnify the sound. Chorus is to extend the the sound and create some form of echo effect, while expending the extend part for some vibration. Echo is to create depth in the sound, while Amplify is to enhance the clip to make the sound more clearer.

I separated the 3 punch clips into different layers, this is to make adjustments to each clip to create different sound.

Trying to make an alien voice, I duplicated the clip so that I can make one super high pitch while the other a very low pitch. This is with a combination of Amplify & Flanger, that can help to enhance the sound.

REFLECTIONS

Experience
Week 2 : I've never done anything like this exercise before, so almost everything was a new experience to me. I have seen many others done it online before, so I had the knowledge of how it's supposed to be done, but have never tried doing it.
Week 5 : I've never use Adobe Audition before, so the software looked quite confusing at first glance.
Week 12 : With the previous exercises given to us, this task was not as difficult.

Observations
Week 2 : Trying to get the recording to be in-sync with the video clip was quite a challenge, but I thankfully got a decent take after multiple attempts & practices.
Week 5 : There were a lot of tools to help edit audios, but it was a bit confusing for me to understand and identify which were the exact tools I needed.
Week 12 : It did not take me that long of a time to complete the task, although I had a bit of an issue with the exporting process.

Findings
Week 2 : Searching online for tips has proven to be very helpful throughout the completion of this exercise.
Week 5 : Having the tutorial video provided to us by the lecturer, it was quite helpful as I was able to find where the tools were located & how to use them.
Week 12 : Googling was able to provide me with solutions to fix my problems.
