Project 2 - Shooting Practice & Editing

This assignment consists of 4 editing exercises, 1 shooting exercise and 1 shooting & editing exercise. Majority of these are all to be done individually, although we might require to be in a group for the shooting processes.

Editing Exercises

Exercise 1

Fig 1.1 Editing Exercise 1 Progression, (06/09/2022)

I first startled by importing all the video clips that were provided to us by the lecturer into Adobe Premiere Pro, I used the storyboards as a guideline to arrange the clips in the correct order. Throughout this process, I also made sure to cut out all the unwanted parts in each video to ensure the flow remains consistent.

I made sure to then import all the graphical elements to identify which is needed for the video.

Next, I aligned them accordingly to the specific parts of the video. This includes the duration & timing of each element, as the flow of the video needs to remain even with these add ons.

Before completing the editing, I made sure to crop the length of the video clips which I felt that it should be shorter. As I did this, I made sure to do the appropriate adjustments for the rest, including the graphical elements.

Exercise 2

We were first grouped up in groups of 2-3 to help film for each other, which we then had to edit our own videos to showcase the different types of shots. After I've imported all the video clips, I proceeded to crop & arrange them accordingly to how I wish the flow to look like.

I found a copywrite free song that match well with the aesthetics I was going for, so I edited it to sync well with the video.

Lastly, I added the required text to label the different shots & filtered the colors to have a nicer consistency. It is also better on the eyes, as the lightning won't be too bright & intense.

Shooting Exercise

For this exercise, we had to incorporate the 7 camera shot types within this 30 seconds MV clip. My teammates & I decided on the part that we were going to dance together, & the rest were filmed individually. All the clips were imported into Premiere Pro & I edited them accordingly, while adjusting the brightness & color contrast for all of them.

After that, I proceeded to crop the videos even more to create more tension & improve the flow to make it look like a trailer.

I then imported the audio clips & put them with their rightful video clip, this includes the adjustments of the volume.

I added in texts & video effects to elevate the mood & flow of the video, including the end credits to all my groupmates.

I went back to the first video clip & started to adjust the color of each of them to ensure they all have a consistent aesthetic & mood.

REFLECTIONS

Experience
Week 2 : Having done the exercises gave me some practice on how to edit clips, but this required more than just the basic cropping. I had a new experience on learning how to time all the clips well to make have a good flow.
Week 3 : The hardest part of this exercise was the filming process, as there were a lot of things that took up a lot of time.
Week 6 : I've not done any group shooting before, so this assignment was something I was looking forward to.

Observations
Week 2 : This task was quite an easy one, although it took a bit of time to ensure that all the clips are timed well.
Week 3 : Setting up the camera to ensure the angling is right was a bit time consuming, ensuring the video turns out fine is also proven to be a bit difficult when you're doing it by your own.
Week 6 : The preparation & communication among my team members was proven to be easy as everyone was very responsive, the shooting process also went fine as everyone was trying their hardest to help support each other.

Findings
Week 2 : Having the original video as a reference helped me to ensure that my video flow is in the correct direction.
Week 3 : Checking my clips once I film then to know what things should change helped me to save some time & not make the same mistake twice.
Week 6 : With the help and guidance by the lecturer throughout the shooting process, me and my groupmates were able to carry out the entire production without having too many difficulties.
